The purpose of the Healthcare Council is to develop and take actions to achieve affordable, accessible, efficient, high quality healthcare for the employers and residents of our state. The Council represents employers in seeking market-based approaches to help them provide affordable, quality healthcare coverage for their employees and works closely with providers to help strengthen Illinois’ healthcare system.

The Healthcare Council held its final quarterly meeting of 2012 at the Metropolitan Club in Chicago on December 11, 2012. The meeting, sponsored by PwC, featured an esteemed panel of speakers that included Dr. Stephen Stabile, the Patient-Centered Medical Home Lead for the Cook County Health and Hospitals System and their new County Cares program (Medicaid expansion demonstration); Gordana Krkic, Deputy Executive Vice President of External Affairs for the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians; and Ceci Connelly, the former chief health policy correspondent for the Washington Post and current Managing Director for PwC’s Health Research Institute. George Mansour, a Director with PwC Health Industry Advisory moderated the panel, and the Council’s Executive Director, Laura Minzer, had the honor and privilege of joining the panel as a surprise guest, bringing the employer perspective to a topic that has continued to shadow over the private and public healthcare coverage and delivery system: how to bend the cost curve. The meeting capped off a very successful and active year for the Council, which is only made possible by the ongoing support and engagement of our members.
