Naperville, IL… The Illinois Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of their 2011-2012 “Champion of Free Enterprise” Award Winners. Thirteen members of the Illinois Senate and seventeen members of the Illinois House, including State Rep. Michael Connelly (R-Naperville), were recipients of the award. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce rates each legislator based on their votes over the previous three General Assemblies. Rep. Connelly received a rating of 100%.
“I am honored to be recognized for my efforts to bring jobs back to Illinois by working to make Illinois a more business friendly state,” said Connelly.
The Illinois Chamber says the recipients of the award have demonstrated their commitment to legislation that frees the entrepreneurial spirit. However, they do note that these ratings are only on issues that are brought to a vote and that action needs to be taken on issues such as workers’ compensation reform, civil justice reform and overregulation. Connelly says that these reforms not only need to be addressed, but they are vital to the upcoming budget debate.
“Increased taxes, increased borrowing and increased spending will not cure our financial woes,” stated Connelly. “What our state is in desperate need of is increased revenue through economic expansion. We can accomplish this through a series of reforms and initiatives including tort reform, real pension reform, workers’ compensation reform and lessening the regulation burden our state puts on businesses.”
