Bill: HB3825 Recyclable Metal

Description: All purchases of recyclable metal must be recorded as provided in the Act, instead of only purchases of recyclable metal with a minimum value of $100.  This bill is aimed at preventing copper and other metal theft and reselling of said metal.

Description: Creates the Illinois Covenants Not to Compete Act and establishes criteria for enforceability of covenants not to compete.  Legislation also establishes remedies and procedures for enforcing covenants not to compete.

Description: in specified types of actions, each defendant found liable is liable for only that percentage of the plaintiff’s damages that represents the fault chargeable to that defendant in the comparison of the plaintiff’s fault with the fault of all tortfeasors whose fault was a proximate cause of the death, injury, loss, or damage for which recovery is sought; and, except when the plaintiff is barred from recovering damages because the plaintiff’s fault is more than 50% of the proximate cause of the injury or damage for which recovery is sought, the plaintiff is barred from recovering damages from a defendant in excess of the amount of damages obtained by applying the percentage of fault of that defendant to the amount of the plaintiff’s damages and no defendant is jointly and severally liable for plaintiff’s damages.

Bill: HB5502 Lawsuit Lending

Description: In any civil action in which a lawsuit lender provides lawsuit lending to a party: (i) the court shall award to the prevailing party all of its costs, expenses, and attorneys’ fees, to be assessed against the losing party; (ii) the lawsuit lender shall post with the clerk of the court a bond in the face amount of 25% of the amount of damages claimed by any such party; and (iii) any and all documents that the lawsuit lender obtained from the party in connection with making any decision to begin lawsuit lending must be produced to the opposing party without awaiting a discovery request.  Chamber initiative.

Provides that consumers must be given access to standard form consumer contracts before a sale to enable the consumer to comparison shop. Authorizes the Attorney General to enforce the Act.
