Taught by orthopaedic surgeon Scott Rubinstein, M.D., Illinois Bone & Joint Institute Register

Orthopaedic surgeons rely on imaging in order to make and confirm a diagnosis, which directly drives surgical decisions. It’s also used to gain additional information, to help the surgeon when an examination is less than ideal, to evaluate the severity of the patient’s problem, and to confirm a diagnosis made on exam before proceeding with more invasive procedures. A variety of imaging tools are available to the surgeon and the selection of the right tool is based on what information is needed in order to provide the appropriate and most effective treatment. There is considerable variability in quality, particularly in MRI; those who understand the factors impacting MRI quality will be better equipped to select MRI services providing the best clinical information. Webinar participants will learn the types of imaging tools, what information the various tools provide, how to choose the right type of imaging based on the information needed, and how to evaluate MRI quality.
