Violence in the workplace and bullying need to be a focus of HR departments as they are in the news often. Businesses need to maintain a safe work environment, provide their employees with support and cover their risk while meeting the “bottom line”. Victims are not the only ones affected by stress and anxiety due to workplace intimidation, bullying and harassment; it can affect an entire department, facility or organization. Why? Due to the potential for lowered productivity, absenteeism and serious health risks. The legal minefields to avoid liability related to workplace violence in all forms is especially difficult.

Attendees to this interactive seminar will learn to identify and discuss critical legal issues and will receive sample policies and practice mechanisms to PROACTIVELY diminish the risks and liabilities associated with workplace violence. To be discussed:
• Legal Developments: Case law updates (local, regional and national)
• Legislative Changes: IL Workplace Violence Protection Act; Anti-Bullying Developments; concealed carry and domestic violence legislation impacting the workplace
• Employer Policy Updates: Harassment; Intimidation/Bullying; Workplace Violence; Workplace weapons; workplace search; employee monitoring/ surveillance; drug testing; employee harmony; improving hiring processes; background checks; applicant questionnaire; criminal histories (convictions vs. arrests)
• Best Practices: Employee investigation and related confrontations
