A full day live seminar for employers operating in Wisconsin and Illinois; as well as anyone interested in taking an in-depth look at the similarities and differences between employment and labor laws in the two states should attend. This presentation will discuss avoidance strategies for litigation and employee disputes. The attorneys will offer best practices that comply in both Illinois and Wisconsin. Sample policies will be provided to help businesses shape procedure and practice necessary to operate in both states.
Specific topics include:
• Background checks – what is lawful and unlawful in both states;
• PTO, Vacation and Leave entitlements (i.e. IL VESSA law, WI FMLA and unpaid leave requirements);
• Wage and hour issues;
• Employee handbooks and policies – finding common ground and highlighting differences;
• Dealing with Guns and “pot” in the workplace;
• Union activities and related developments;
• Employee terminations and limits of “at-will” employment in each State;
• DOL & EEO/Civil Rights Agencies– compare and contrast the States’ enforcement agencies and their very different approaches;
• Protecting Trade Secrets and Enforcing Non-Compete Agreements; and
• Obligations after the employment relationship ends.
