Bullseye for DART

dart3Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has made the move to CNG fueled transit buses.  A bold move helped in part by the public private partnership with Clean Energy Fuels that built the fueling stations needed to ensure the buses could fuel up in the right places at the right time.

The CNG buses are a bit more expensive than conventional diesel buses, but the fuel savings are huge right now and it looks as though DART bold’s move is paying off.

As with any such move, there is the law of unintended consequences.  But here the consequences seem to be all positive.  Passengers like the “greener” buses and quieter engines.  People around the buses don’t miss the diesel fumes and even the bus driver don’t miss coming home smelling like diesel.

Here’s the blog entry on the early results of the switch and it includes this video on early reactions.

Congrats to DART for taking a shot and hitting what looks to be a bullseye!
